Now I have a use for the squirrels that keep raiding my birdfeeders! Can I substitute Sciurus carolinensis?

Squirrels are rats with fancy tails. Rat does not taste bad so I would suspect that squirrel tasted pretty good also.

You used to be able to find small advertisements for canned squirrel in the back of Gourmet magazine. It would be handy for making Brunswick Stew.

Scurry day...
It's a definate improvement over my first attempt... "sweet squirrels". I didn't know how to skin them, so the fuzzy was provided by... well, fur. I tried Melba Toast, but it's not the same.
Sciurus carolinensis would be an excellent source. The 13-lined ground squirrel is predatory in nature, and the flesh of meat eaters has a distinct taste from the flesh of onmivores or herbivores. As for Squirrels raiding, there are a lot of fun games you can play with squrrels, like "high pressure water hose squirrel and go seek", or, for those about to cook, "pop goes the Sciuridae". (as for technique, there are many, and I won't go into that unless someone needs some ideas). I do not support the RSEP (Rural Squirrel Electrification Project), and I have had the stew shocked out of me, and unless you're a trained electician, you might be the more likely to be lit up. Especially when the squirrels learn you're plotting ag'in them. They're tricky little bastards. Search You Tube for "squirrel, car, insurance" for an example. :-D Also, Brunswick Stew cannot be considered authentic without the addition of some form of wild life, usually squirrel (although rabbit, woodchuck, and possum have been used to good effect). Dang it, now I'm hungry, and I'm all out of squirrel! I think there are rats near the trash bins... where's my airgun? |

Dang you people! I dreamed about the phrase "sweet fuzzy squirrels on a cracker" last night...and now the phrase won't leave my head!
