Creating .xeb ebooks and Templates for the Iliad

Hi!

The first iRex Iliad devices have started rolling out, and to our general astonishment, the best reader software on ehte deivce at the moment is based on the .xeb file-format (Apabi?)
The only software out there to actually create these files is all-chinese and a little hard to understand for anyone not familiar with Chinese characters.

Maybe somebody can try to get some more info on this?

Thanks.

The one Software known so far is:

The above is an old version of the software. I have since found a 2.1 version

I have made some screen shots of the program. Just in case someone wants to help translate the program without installing it.

From translating the manual with Google and using the program I have a general idea of what these dialogs are about, however I have still not figured out each option in the settings dialog. Also I know that the Create book dialog has a fields for title and author, but do know which field is which.

Once I have the last info, I will make an English manual and post it.

great. i managed to install the 1.85 apabi reader.

you can open the empty .xeb file created for iliad note taking.

but when trying to open a file created with PPublisher the program crashed.

did one of you succeed yet?

edit:
i succeeded with creating a book containing only one jpg.

the upper filed seems to be title, the lower one author.
(apabi reader displays the upper field and in the empty file it's called blank_pages)

edit2:
creating books containing a txt file also works.

i just fail with html.

Short How-To:

1. Install the program (next, next, next, just like every windows installer)
2. Start it
3. Add by double-clicking on the left side files to the right side
4. press on the 2nd button from left (seems to be something like "pack")
5. Enter Title (upper), Author (lower field) and path
6. Press the button with (N), confirm with the (A) button when necessary

and the file is created =)

Purpose of the buttons:
1st: New Project
2nd: Create the file
3rd: Options
4th: Help (Chinese, thus useless)
5th: Quit

Just got the English version of Apabi Reader to recognize xeb files. Turns out that you need xeb plugin in order for it to work. Now I can create xeb files with Apabi Publisher and preview them on the PC.

The reader is here:
http://apabi.lib.apabi.com/download/...ader_Setup.exe

and the Plugin is here:
http://apabi.lib.apabi.com/download/XebPlugIn.exe

BTW: it works fine on an English OS

Just tried to create a .xeb consisting of 600x600-pixel png's, and it worked. However, the pngs appear to small. Did anybody find out how to make things fullscreen? Or what the things in the option dialog mean?

In the settings dialog at the bottom, there is a maximum image width (in pixels) setting.
The predefined settings are for Ebbok Device, Palm Pilot, Desktop PC and Custom. Choose custom (last item) and type a number between 160 and 800 in the box.

Or if you can hold out for a couple of days I will be launching a little surprise that I have been working on for a week now

Anyone figured out how to shrink the text size on a xeb book using this software?

@Roceh

The Publisher software (Personal Edition) cannot modify an existing xeb file.
There is a professional version of the software that has a lot of extra features, but this is for publishers only, and creates DRM protected files.
I have not seen this for download anywhere, and I only know it exists, because all of the extra dialogs are in the Personal Edition, but not used.

Sorry i didnt word it correctly, not so much modifying an existing xeb book, but creating a new xeb with smaller text.

I converted some html and some of the header formated text (header 1) was larger, but i could not make the text any smaller. I guess its more geared for chinese style glyphs, hence the rather large font.

Its a shame, because the page turning on the xeb reader is much faster than the pdf viewer on the iliad.
