And I somehow feel old at times when I can say I remember when you only had to dial 7 digits to make a local call.
Would it make you feel younger when I remember dialing 4 digits? 7 digits went away in 2008.

I remember dialing seven characters -- but the first two were alphabetic. Our town had two exchanges, CRestview 3 (CR3, now 273) and CRestview 7 (CR7 now 277). Like old movies where the telephone number was KLondike5-1234. That was when phones all had three letters above each number on the rotary dial.

No Q and no Z. I remember living in the CAstle (22), MUtual (68) and CYpress (29) exchange areas. Call Castle 82222 and ask for Marvin.

In my entire state, you must only dial seven digits to make an in-state call.

I was gonna say 7 digit dialing went away later than that here, but it actually apparently went away in February 2007

In late 1960's my town had four digit phone numbers and no dialer.
We used to just lift the receiver and in some moments an exchange operator asked you which number to connect to.
