Changing country location
I've got a Kindle international and am using it in the UK. I've bought a lot of books and am enjoying using it. Some of the books I've got are only available in the UK location.
However I'm frustrated to see that, if I log out of my amazon.com account and then browse the store with a US location there are a number of books I'd like to buy which are not available with a UK location (some of them are cheaper as well - I'm not worried about that). If I change my location to the US (I understand from other threads in this forum I can do that whilst still using a UK credit card) do I lose the UK books I've brought? How often can I change location (to get books that are only available in the UK)? |

But to be on the safe side, why not back up all your books to a computer (which is not a bad thing to do anyway). Just connect the Kindle to a PC or Mac with the USB cable, and copy the files from the Kindle's Documents folder to a suitable folder on your hard drive. It's highly unlikely that changing your location will cause you to lose any books, but if you have a backup, at least you will be able to restore them if the worst happens (and without Amazon knowing). |

I can then happily register and deregister my Kindle between the two accounts, depending on whether the book I want to buy is a) cheaper and b) available in each country. When I deregister the Kindle from my UK or US account all the details of the ebooks I've bought disappear (cue panicking). However, when I reregister the Kindle on my UK or US account, the respective ebooks magically appear again. As the two accounts aren't linked (not sure if you can, doubt it) the ebooks I've bought on my US account don't appear on my UK account and vice versa. |

I have changed between an Aus and US address with no issues, all of my books stay happily in place.

Same here. No need for two accounts and even the AUS credit card will buy books from the US store. So no need for the gift card either. Just download through your PC to avoid the $1.99 whispernet charge because the Amazon system knows you are not in the US, even though using a US address.

I bought a gift card using a Aus registered Amazon account last night, gifted it to my U.S. addressed Amazon account, deregistered my Kindle from account 1 and registered it on (U.S.) account 2, then bought three books. Today got this email from Amazon. Is there any way around this now? Am I too late to use a U.S. proxy? Was I detected via the Aus whispernet connection or Aus IP address for my web session?
--- I see that you attempted to purchase Kindle content while in a different country than United States listed on your amazon account. Certain Kindle titles are not available everywhere. We are reaching out to you for information to ensure the best possible service for your account. If you have moved to a different country, you can easily update your country for your Amazon account at http://www.Amazon.com/manageyourkindle If this is not the case, and you’re actually residing in United States, please fax us any of the following at 001-206-266-1838 when faxing from outside the US, or 206-266-1838 from within the US: – Passport – Military ID – Permanent Resident Card – Driver’s License – Other state photo identity card Thank you for your assistance. I think the problem occurred when you deregistered the kindle - you didnt need to do that! You simply needed to amend your original account to use the US address as the default 1click address. No need for a proxy IP either. Maybe you could deregister the kindle from your fake account and re register it in your normal account and add the US address to that account and try again. Download your purchases to your computer and dont use whispernet. Unfortunately your kindle model may now well be flagged and even this might not work.
I would never give any of these documents to an online merchant, because that is all Amazon is. Last edited by Pushka; 01-08-2010 at 02:13 AM. |

Do you guys have an actual residential address in the USA that you use or do you use fake ones (or real ones - like a hotel for eg - that you don't actually live at...)
