spell check tools for epub / ibooks

Hello Friends

can any one suggest me how to do spell check in a e-pub file specifically for French / German language. Any specific tools / scripts that can be integrated with the e-pub output while viewing on ADE or Sigil editor

Thanks in advance
Raju

wait, why would you need to spell check it? you can't edit it as a consumer can you?

If you are a writer, then I suppose you can just search french dictionary or german dictionary and use those apps.

im not sure if there's a spell checker app for epub file.. if you are a writer and you want to publish your books in epub version, it would be best if you will just run the spell check using MS Word... for me, nothing beats MS Word for typing... it has everything i need...

Hi Delotte231 / Liquid Gear

Thank you for the response. May be my requirement was not stated clearly by me. We create epub from pdf that has volume of text. Once epub os created , we find plenty of words wrongly spelt, accents not correct and wrong hyphenation. It becomes nearly impossible to do line by line check. We are looking for some tool that can help to over come this problem. Pl suggest

Thanks

Do you know that an ePub is a zip file? You can unzip the file and the individual files are actually xhtml files. You can spell check them, fix the errors and put them back in the zip file. Notepad++ has a spell checker that could be used on the files.

Why would you use PDF as a source? Do you know the only way to get the conversion correct is through a hell of a lot of work? You don't actually need to spell check because the only way to do a proper PDF > ePub conversion is to do an A/B compare which will catch any errors made from the conversion.

First, for those who apparently don't know already, Sigil is an editor which allows you to view and edit the individual HTML files, meta data, toc, etc. No need to unzip an ePub as Sigil already has that covered. Sigil lets you open an ePub and gives you instant, direct editing access to all the source files zipped up in the ePub.

Secondly, I agree with JSWolf. PDF files are the most gawd awful files in the publishing world. If you are trying to convert PDF to ePub then expect daily migraines followed by eventual brain shut down. If you have the original source files used to create the PDFs then use them for the conversion. If you don't have the original source used to create the PDFs then they were probably not created by you, so you might not have a choice but to use the PDFs, but that will be a grueling task.
