Should I use calibre just to paste epub into the e-reader?

Hi

Should I really use calibre just to copy my epubs into the my e-reader? I always transfer by pasting the file into the root of the my reader. What are the advantages of pasting them through calibre?

If you only want to transfer books to your reader, you really don't need calibre at all.

Calibre is useful if you want to organize your library, create collections, edit metadata, strip DRM, perform format conversions, edit your books and many other functions.

When Calibre sends a book to the device, it updates that copy with the latest metadata (as shown in the Library).
If you use the OS to copy, this does not happen.
If you don't care. there is no need to use calibre other than what Pablo cited

I searched Internet about the 'metadata' but couldn't find any information about it. I'm very bad at searching on the Internet. Can you please make a little explanation of it?
