I bought this device because of the "Super Refresh Technology" not because of the colour.

My impression is that my Boox Tab devices work even more smoothly

I'm sceptical of Dasung's screen. It's about ten years too late.

Maybe x8 the price of my 4K "paper-like" 23.5″ UHD 4K IPS LG with glare/reflection free panel.

The problem with a transmitted light device is that when the surroundings are bright, the transmitted light has to match up with reflected light, which is not the case with a reflected light device.

Only true for a portable device and why I only use the front-light if there is a power cut at night or I'm somewhere too gloomy.

A desktop monitor unlike a portable reading device is used in a fixed environment which can be controlled. Ideally the daylight should be controlled with a blind or curtain and the desk at right angles to the window.

A 23″ screen is absolutely not a portable device.

Wrong - this is always the case and why this also applies to your devices, you have provided this reason below

You are entitled to your opinion.
I've decades of experience planning offices and setting up computers. Certainly Kaleido 3 23″ monitor might have been worth considering for text only applications 10 years go, though crazy expensive. Now there are good monitor solutions that size. I've older screens that don't come close to the quality of my LG which is like working on paper. The Kaleido 3 is useless for photo editing, and abysmal for rapid scrolling, web pages, video or games. Only good for text applications, comics and paginated newspapers/magazines, text books and about x8 the price of a decent higher resolution zero glare 4K screen.

Feel free to pop in if you are transiting Shannon and have half a day spare.

Edit:
You chopped off the important bit and misunderstand what I wrote about proper monitor use.

.
I have actually taken it once to someone's dining-kitchenette with badly placed window to use on a nearly new laptop. Even then no glare/reflections and after adjusting the brightness the use was like paper. Unlike a portable phone / tablet the brightness only needs adjusted once at a location.

I'd absolutely use mono eink for any portable reading device. I'd only consider "colour" eink as an additional luxury product if I read a lot of comics.

The difference is that you're talking about a monitor and I'm talking about the principle of a transmitted-light device vs. a reflected-light device

Except for financial reasons I doubt I will ever buy a non-colour Android e-reader again. For viewing external applications and navigation the difference is remarkable (and if we add the power of current colour devices, even more so). On Linux (PocketBook) I see colour as more limited to specialised reading (comics, PDFs...).

In my particular case, for regular reading with the same reading programs I use on my non-colour e-readers (AlReader X and KOReader) I haven't noticed a difference that makes me long for a non-colour device. But this is a matter of personal taste.

There are several great options for non-Kindle devices in the 7-9 inch range that support epubs and have excellent light adjustment features. Some popular choices include the Kobo Clara HD, the PocketBook Touch HD 3, and the Boox Nova 3 Color.

Kobo Clara HD and Pocketbook Touch HD 3 are 6'', not 7-9''.
