So do you think Apple will help the publishers strong arm Amazon into upping e-book prices? He didn't say that Apple would be competitively priced to match Amazon. He said the books will be the same.

If Apple is a large enough force, they maybe intend to "re-set" the pricing standard to get a higher profit margin, like they've done with music.

I'm pretty sure now that Jobs wasn't talking about $9.99

I wasn't aware it was Apple that re-set the pricing standard for music though...from what I've read it was the music industry that wanted variable pricing, to get a higher profit margin on new releases.
