Convert periodicals to books

Hi...

Kindle has the irritating behaviour that it won't allow you to move periodicals to folders as you can with books. The last edition of a periodical stays on the home page. This is ok until you cancel a subscription and are then stuck with the issue on the home page and can't archive it, or add to a collection.

I figured that as the periodicals came from Calibre, it should be possible to alter it to be treated as a book, not a periodical.. But i can't find anything in the meta info to allow that "conversion".. Any ideas how I can do this?

Thanks!

You'd have to edit the source code. Add

self.is_periodical = False

at the top of the convert() method in plugins/mobi_output.py

Great - many thanks for the help!

Where do I find the source for that plugin, please?

You can find instructions on how to set up a development environment in the user manual.

Perfect - got all the info now thanks! Looks like creating plug ins is fairly straightforward.

.. a related question. I have some stuff in htmlz format. Looking at the css and html therein, I can't see any reference to book / periodical in that format. So, if htmlz is converted to, say, mobi, how would the mobi conversion know what to do... And if it doesn't, what is the default action?

Thanks!
