'supported' file types

On the nook 'Specs' web page they say that .jpg, .png., and .gif are among the Supported File Types. Are they just talking about the screensaver, or is there an image viewer built in? If so how does it work?

I added a folder under 'My Files' and put some image files in there. These show up in 'My Files' in the library, but when I try to open them it says "This NOOK(TM) cannot read this file. It may be an unsupported format."

There's nothing in the User Guide about this.

I noticed that too. You would expect the nook touch to show the pictures when you click on them in the library, but looks like this "support" is only for the screensaver.

Yeah, it's too bad. I mean it would be nice to be able to at least look at your screensavers to see how they look on the nook without waiting for each one to come up in the cycle while it sleeps.

Well, you can cycle through the photos in the screensaver folder by pressing the Power button repeatedly. Not the greatest user experience though, and a big stretch to call this 'support'.

Guess this might be something you could actually use PDF for, if you have a tool that can package the images in PDF. But it wouldn't be full-screen due to the margins and reading progress.
