I will third Horror, third P. Clark MobileRead Library, and second Lottery V3.

WT Sharpe beat me to horror, so I will think of something later for my third vote.

In my desire to get us thinking outside of category/genre and to get us searching for something in uncharted territories, I'm going to use my third nomination for

Planes, Trains and Automobiles
Books must feature planes or trains or automobiles prominently as characters, or plot determiners. So something like Murder on the Orient Express works since the setting on the train figures prominently into the plot. Christine would be another good choice since the car is the main antagonist in the plot. Crash by J.G. Ballard would work since the vehicle is a large portion of the story. Or maybe Flight into Danger by Hailey where the setting on the plane is a key part of the action.

Don't see why we can't choose something worth reading in this category. And just 'cos it's Horror, doesn't mean it has to be horrible.

What about boats? Shouldn't there be an addendum for them?

Heh heh, yes I know the film and your category idea is clever. I'm just saying that for a category if somehow it did win, that poor boats, a valid form of transportation, would be left out in the cold. I petition the category to be Planes, Trains and Automobiles (and Boats).

Hmmm....I lived on an island in the North Atlantic for three years.

I suppose we can add "and Boats", but it has to be in parentheses.

BelleZora and orlok: you seconded and thirded this category. Is the change okay with you two?

"Planes, Trains and Automobiles (and boats)"

Most of what I'd want to nominate has already been nominated. I'll try something different:

No Pbook Available - this is the "indie/self-pub"-ish category, with a requirement that it's only ever been available as an ebook, so no backlist ebooks.

Science still needs a second and a third. There's no more interesting field in the world in my opinion. For example; it's just been announced that scientists have achieved a "mind-meld" between a rat in Brazil and one in North Carolina, USA. Can you even begin to envision the implications of what that means for the future of the human species? There's an article on it in yesterday's edition of Nature. See also the entertaining and free short story bmcox was inspired to post on his blog, the link to which can be found in this post.

But that's just it, people are picking books based on anything else but how scarey it might be. And the worst books get chosen.

The last book Camilla was chosen because it was free and it had something to do with Dracula in the description. Dracula was a dreadful book. So why pick a book that has something to do with another book that wasn't scarey in the least?

This is why I find horror a wasted month. We just don't get books that fit well. I've tried to get something going with books like Rosemary's Baby and Carrie. But they don't win even though they were the possibly scariest books in the list. We get wimpy dull boring nothing at all to do with horror books that win.

Camilla had more lesbian themes running throughout then it did anything at all to do with horror. The characters were unlikable. The stories pacing was slow. The premise was silly.
