My PBS station refers to them as the Brit Coms. My favorites are To the Manor Born, The Good Life, and Yes, Minister.

Apart from all those listed above...

The Young Ones

Black Books

The League of Gentlemen

The IT Crowd

Black Adder
(though I'm not so fond of the first series. You can also assume Mr. Bean)

Father Ted

Bottom

Gimme Gimme Gimme

Time Gentlemen Please

(studiously avoiding mention of any comedy sketch shows, to avoid the list getting too long)

Cheers,
Marc

Good choices ('cept Father Ted which didn't grab me, though I know I'm in a minority with that one).

'Peep Show' is brilliant - in a similar vein to Gimme and IT Crowd.

Us Brits are enjoying some of the excellent comedies making the opposite journey across the pond (StateComs ?) - Simpsons, Frasier, Curb Your Enthusiasm etc. etc. - so it's working both ways.

(Just waiting for the Aussies to contribute something to the pile )

I enjoyed Ripping Yarns from the warped minds of Monty Python's Michael Palin and Terry Jones.

Speaking of the Aussies, while I lived in Belgium I was hooked on the show Neighbors which played on a local station. It was one of the few shows that they aired in English.

yes, i noticed you were wearing your maillot jaune for a while...

so what were you doing in belgium ? (other than, presumably, eating a lot of chocolate and frites. )

it seems you are on the same odd timetable as the rest of us, if now you are in South Carolina (what is that ? 6 hours difference ?)

I'd never seen or heard of Vicar of Dibley until I found it on Netflix a couple of months ago. Laughed so much I was crying!

It's not meant to be a comedy, but I laugh my butt of at Robin Hood on BBC America. It's so bad that it's good!
