how many titles does YOUR library have?
I was reading through the library ebook thread and was shocked to learn that New York Public library has more books than the Chicago Public Library. Since I live in Chicago now and last year I lived in New York I have both library cards. Many people discussed paying non-resident rates for library cards in NYC. I figured maybe there is a library with a better collection and people that live in cities with good collection might decide to take advantage of their programs.
So I'll start it off. and I will edit to update what others are listing Chicago Public Library http://overdrive.chipublib.org All Adobe PDF: 1,216 All ePub: 134 New York http://ebooks.nypl.org All ePub: 1,086 All PDF: 13,004 --------------------UPDATED------------------ Vancouver Public Library http://downloads.bclibrary.ca All Ebooks (PDF + ePUB): 2803 Toronto Public Library http://overdrive.torontopubliclibrary.ca Epub books: 204 PDF books: 559 -------------UPDATED-------------------------- Los Angeles Public Library http://www.lapl.org/catalog/ebooks.html (as of 11:20pm on 12-21-2009) PDF: 773 Original Posters note: (uses NetLibrary, not Overdrive) ---------------UPDATE--------------------------- Washington, DC http://overdrive.dclibrary.org/72023...en/default.htm EPUB: 919 PDF: 6243 Crystal Lake Public Library http://crystallake.lib.overdrive.com/ ePub: 0 PDF: 1639 Mobi: 884 Schaumburg Public Library http://www.mymediamall.net/ ePub: 166 PDF: 1752 Mobi: 468 ----------------------------UPDATED AGAIN------------------------------------- Washington, DC Public Library http://overdrive.dclibrary.org/ ePub:919 Fairfax, VA Public Library http://fairfax.lib.overdrive.com/ ePub: 79 PDF: 1,865 (corrected by yekim54) -------------------------ANOTHER UPDATE WOW thanks ALL --------------------- Cuyahoga County Public Library (CLEVELAND, OH) has: http://ebcd.cuyahogalibrary.org Adobe PDF - 3128 Naperville Public Library: http://www.naperville-lib.info/catalog/eMedia.htm EPUB - 155 Protected PDF - 1872 ---------------------------UPDATED Jan 3 2010------------------------------- Minuteman Library (library consortium covering Metrowest region of Massachusetts) http://digital.minlib.net/10B15150-B...en/default.htm epub - 98 pdf - 46 Boston Public Library http://overdrive.bpl.org/9886B135-81...en/Default.htm ePub - 461 PDF - 2280 --------------------------- Next update------------------ Maryland: http://maryland.lib.overdrive.com/71...en/Default.htm Adobe Epub - 110 Adobe PDF - 1484 ------------------------Update 2010--------------------------------------------- Brooklyn New York http://brooklyn.lib.overdrive.com/85...en/Default.htm Adobe ePub: 1,314 Adobe PDF: 2,734 __________________________________________________ ____________________ Seattle Public Library. http://spl.lib.overdrive.com Adobe ePub: 4,164 Adobe PDF: 8,779 King County Library http://ebooks.kcls.org/ Adobe ePub: 135 Adobe PDF: 3,875 ________________________update Oct 2010___________________________________ granted this is getting out of date but new updates still coming thanks San Fransisco Public Library http://sfpl.lib.overdrive.com/036F88...en/Default.htm 3034 Epub 1390 PDF National Library Board of Singapore http://singapore.lib.overdrive.com 2,554 ePub 13,799 PDF __________________________________________________ ____________________ Thanks everyone BTW I am not listing Mobi until Sony 500 or 505 are capable of reading them natively. Why are you shocked that NYPL has more ebooks than Chicago? It's a bigger city.
BTW, there are no more "non-resident" cards being sold for NYPL. And in general, accessing a library e-account when you are not a local resident is against the terms of use of most libraries. |

Dr. Moze
I assume that overdrive would have different classes of membership based on how much the library was willing to pay and how large the library system paid. I figured that while NYC is a larger city that Chicago and New York would be in the same tier. Obviously the system Overdrive uses has a lot more choice for the library than I expect and that is awesome for the book sellers and the librarians. My hat is off to overdrive. |

And I just noticed something interesting: The DC Library, in addition to lending eBooks, also sells them. So, you find a book you want to read but someone has it checked out you have the option of placing a hold on it for when it does become available or buying it on the spot. Prices don't seem particularly competitive but I suppose that may change.

If you're looking for ePub, go for the County of LA Public Library. They have around 175, I think (going to look so I can post stats). I've had my PRS-505 since September 1, and at that time it was only around 120, so they're adding around 10-20 books a month, I guess.
