Just finishedTouchstone by Melanie Rawn. Liked the book, the way it was a high fantasy turned into a personal relationship/struggle between two characters, and their respective weaknesses and insecurities. I will definitely be reading more of her books in the future.

Finished Provenance by Anne Leckie. Very good, though she went a different, nonetheless tangled route with personal pronouns (only one Radchaai in this story),
Also, might as well record now that I will finish my HP audiobook on my drive into work this morning. Next up (unless I change my mind): Extra Virginity: The Sublime and Scandalous World of Olive Oil by Tom Mueller and A Closed and Common Orbit (audio) by Becky Chambers. I finished up Nicholas Nickleby and rated it 4 out of 5 stars.
I found the book was much better than the 2002 movie adaption I watched last night, although I did like Christopher Plummer as Uncle Ralph Nickelby in the movie. The book did a much better job of bringing out the sense of friendship, love, duty, and honor, the charity of the Cheeryble brothers, and the harsh cruelties of the Squeers in their school for boys. The book also had a much larger canvas in which to paint the relationships that develop in the story, and there were even a few surprises along the way that I did see coming! |

I'm saying sorry to CRussel, but I couldn't finish reading Breakup. I thought the opening events were so unlike the previous books. I also didn't find anything very funny. I'll have to wait and read other books before delving back into the series.

Next up: The Emperor's Soul by Brandon Sanderson. Which was a quick and most enjoyable read. I love his magic systems. Next up: The Third Pig Detective Agency by Bob Burke. I bought this one back in 2009. Time to read it at last! |

I'm currently reading Peter F. Hamilton's "Great North Road": a standalone SF crime novel set in 23rd-century Newcastle-upon-Tyne (and other places). As with many of Hamilton's books, this is a real door-stopper of a novel, and I'm currently 30% of the way through it after more than a week. Thoroughly enjoying it, and I'd highly recommend it.

Never got around to re-reading Malpertuis by Jean Ray. I watched the French movie with Mathieu Carrière and Orson Welles instead.
I'm going to read The White Wyrak by Stefan Grabinski in Jeff Vandermeer's The Weird tonight and then I'll have to choose between Provenance by Ann Leckie, Quillifer by Walter Jon Williams, or Sea of Glass by Dennis Parry. |

i read it about 3 years ago (actually, as I look back at it, I started it exactly 3 years ago today) and really enjoyed it too. I like that it is completely stand-alone, so while it is long, at least I don't need to go find the next book in this series.
