If you call Sony up, they will send you a prepaid mailer so that your 500 can be updated and then will return the 500 for free. It took me 3 days to get the mailer.

Yeah but hopefully I wont need to, as I should be able to get the needed inof from users that have the modded 500.

Here is the directory structure of the 500. The fonts directory I put on so I could reference fonts from ePub eBooks.

I'll be getting both of our readers back tomorrow, so thank you both for starting to work on getting our 500's to work with Calibre! I'd rather not be stuck using Sony's software!

You guys rock!

The new version appears to be out! Calibre updated a little while ago on my F12 laptop. Now I can access my newly updated PRS-500. WooHoo! Kovid rocks!

Thanks Kovid for the newly update PRS-500 support! Works great here!
It reports when I insert it as Pocket Reader then PRS-505 in the GUI... but handles books just fine
I assume I'd be fine (with new calbre installs) selecting Pocket Edition instead of PRS-500 in the calibre wizard?

Maybe I spoke too soon earlier.
Using firmware upgraded PRS-500 on Ubuntu. Connected it; it fails to recognise my memory stick. It automatically uploaded news to the internal memory. I disconnected the device, the PRS-500 claimed it was still connected via USB. Had to force reset.
Tried connecting it again, memory stick not appearing in calibre.
Third time, memory stick still not appearing in calibre.
Any suggestions? - Running 0.6.27 on ubuntu x64
OK, plugged it into PC. sony software and calibre 0.6.26 hasn't a problem detecting the prs-500 and its memory stick. This deserves more testing; shall do calibre debug on ubuntu and post result.

My memory stick reappears magically now on ubuntu! Don't ask me why..

yeah sounds like an intermittent issue. That debug output indicates both main memory and card were detected correctly. Try a different card/formatting your card.
