prc won't load

I've been trying to convert a copy of a .html novel for reading on my PEZ, but am having all sorts of difficulties.

Converting directly using Mobipocket Creator works, but when I try to read the .prc file I get to the generated table of contents, hit next page and the document closes.

If I jump beyond the TOC. I get a blank page or the page is displayed and a subsequent next page crashes the file.

Using Calibre I get marginal success, I Can get beyond the TOC, but subsequent pages are all blank.

I've tried converting with Calibre to

pdf - TOC converts with hyperlinks and all subsequent pages are blank.
epub - Can't get beyond the TOC

I've even converted the .html doc to Word and then to .prc, the doc opens and crashes.

Anyone run into this problem before? Any suggestions.

Is the novel copyright free? If so, could you post it, I'd love to try to convert it. I've played with many formats, but haven't had an HTML book to play with.

There is clearly something wrong with your source HTML file. It is likely using some illegal constructs that are getting ignored in the browser. You might want to check it against the standard. http://www.w3.org/

As it turns out that is what it was. I was using a couple of WSIWIG editors to build the TOC and never bothered to look at the source. In my SmartQ 7 the file displayed in Fb2, but there were these weird characters everywhere.

So, I had a couple of clues. Once I saw the source file, I did a search and replace and recompiled. I can see the file now, but I'm going to have to redo as some of those were placeholders for a space character so there are now a lot of run on words.
