In this tale of ancient Rome, a young soldier is assigned to find and arrest hiding Christians. The tension mounts as he turns from persecutor to persecuted.

The Martyr of the Catacombs: A Tale of Ancient Rome is now known to have been written by James De Mille (1833–1880). It was first published by Carlton & Porter, New York in 1865.
