Seriousness Alice's adventures in algebra: Wonderland solved

According to this New Scientist article, Alice in Wonderland was largely written with mathematics references and explains why it was as madcap it was!

Lewis Carrol was probably one of the most 'creative' mathematicians in history. It's really worth looking into some of his work other than Alice, AprilHare. Must admit, though, that I've always liked to take Wonderland at (more or less) face value as just one heck of a ride. N

The idea that Alice's Adventures in Wonderland contains hidden mathematical structure is hardly new, and may or may not have merit, although it seems to me that many of the examples cited in Melanie Bayley's article are a bit of a stretch. I can't help but wonder how much has been read into the work over the years by people who looked for such structure. If a non-mathematician had written the same book, would we even be having this discussion?
