Does for me.

If you use Sigil to do the rename, YES. (You change the name of files in the book browser window).
If you do it with the OS (or other renaming tool), Nope.

Hey team, It would be fantastic if you could do a rename in the Reports:Images tool (you can do a delete), where you can SEE a thumbnail.
Obviously, the rename can't clash with any existing file name, but that rule already exists in the book browser

You're lucky you can delete from the Reports Widget.

Don't expect any more in the way of general editing capabilities inside a feature that was only ever envisioned as being used in a "Show Me" capacity.

Interesting. Never even thought to Right-Click anything in those menus.

I see you can also Delete HTML files from Reports > HTML Files.

Being able to Rename or Add Semantics right in the Reports would be interesting (especially if in Reports > All Files where you can actually see a Semantics column).

(Of course, disable being allowed to Delete/Rename important files like content.opf.)

I'm a frequent 'context' menu user.
I tend to right-click first (and mumble later )
I have 'discovered, many a 'feature'

(If you haven't: right-click the Windows 'Start' icon )

Yes. renaming any file(s) by select, r-click "rename", rewrites any link that points to it, be it in HTML, OPF or NCX, CSS (for font filenames, e.g.).
You can have a HTML file with a link and in the file window rename the linked file and see the link change in tune.

A useful trick in this regard:
With code and preview windows open for a file with an image link. In the code, r-click on the image name (e.g. ="../Images/cover.jpg") and choose "Open tab for image"; then r-click on that to rename.

You can review all the image thumbnails at once with "Tools/Reports/Images". Useful to see the pattern, if any, in existing filenames.

You can, indirectly.
Open "Reports", put its window to the right covering half the screen.
Double-click on the line in the table for the image.
-- you might expect that if anything opened, it would be the image's tab. But what does open is a HTML page with a link to that image highlighted.

On that link, r-click "Open tab for image".
Then in the tab, "R-click" to rename.

So, 3 clicks, but fairly quick. Also useful to see images in context before renaming.

Irfanview is a useful tool for this too: use it from an image tab to "open with" and then press "T" (Thumbnails) and it will show you all the images in the book (scanning the temp folder where they are extracted) with their names -- DO NOT use this to rename them, Sigil will not update its links. But you can have this window open while you are renaming in Sigil, refreshing (F5) to check progress when there are many images.

I sometime use U(npack) and then navigate to the Images folder in large icon mod.
I make NO changes there, but simply look-see , then use the rename in the editor to do the deed
I abort the unpack in the end
