Verne, Jules: 20,000 Leagues Under the Seas. v2. 15th Feb 2010
Jules Verne's classic novel of underwater adventure. Most English translations of this novel are abridged; this is a complete (and very good!) translation.
I've done a fair amount of tidying up of the PG original - improving the formatting, converting all the "in line" footnotes into proper linked "endnotes", etc. The result is, I think, much nicer to read than the original PG version. Harry, I notice that you have typed "Seas" (plural) in your thread title. Is that a typo, or is that the correct translation of the work's title?

That is the correct title of the book - a translation of the French "20000 Lieues Sous Les Mers". That's the whole point - it is a journey of 20,000 leagues (distance, not depth!) beneath all the seas and oceans of the world. The often-seen English title "... under the SEA" really is incorrect.

Unfortunately, this young designer used the singular version of the title, but still, I'd suggest asking if he would be willing to allow you to use his cover designs for your epub and .lrf books:

It's very kind of you to provide this link, but I actually prefer my own covers, because they show up very nicely as thumbnail images on devices like the Bookeen ones, where the book cover is the main means of selecting the book. Obviously, though, if anyone wishes to replace the cover, all you have to do is open the ePub as a ZIP file and replace the file "cover.jpg" with a cover of their choice (using the same filename).

Congratulations, Harry! Your editing is (as always) impressive. I'm sure we can, pedantics and all, agree it is your edition, in any case
Isn't the time ripe for an illustrated version? I am trying to stuff all of the original etchings by Alphonse de Neuville and Édouard Riou into the book. Hopefully I'll be able to do it without my reader bursting at the seams. |

If you want an illustrated edition, I'd suggest going for the Naval Institute Press edition:
http://www.usni.org/store/books/fict...gues-under-sea Paperback only AFAIK, but well-worth it. |
