New Kindles on their way?

All I want is an updated Scribe. I barely read on My PW now and my 6” Kindle is only used outside the house.

I'm still puzzled by the whole thing. At least on Amazon UK, all Kindles except the Paperwhite Kids and the Scribe have been out of stock for days (weeks?) now, and so far our best intel on the new devices point to a basic Kindle with a slightly brighter screen and a Paperwhite with a slightly larger screen.

Those updates are welcome but not revolutionary, and hardly justify Amazon losing sales every day in preparation for their release.

I guess as pdurrant said, we'll just have to wait and see!

amazon is not loosing sales. as soon as the new shiny thing drops people will buy it.

The Scribe switched to MTP for USB file access shortly after it was released. I wonder whether the 12th generation Kindles will use MTP from the start.

Using MTP reduces the chance of file system damage if a Kindle is unplugged without ejecting it properly. It could also potentially give Amazon more control of which files can be accessed on the Kindle.

Right. The vast majority of Amazon/Kindle users don't care about color.(Which is the update some are waiting for) If they did the current Kindles would not have sold out during prime. Most readers that buy these things just don't read comic books. If color was so important most would have moved over to Kobo long ago. I expect this new Paperwhite with just a .2 bigger screen to sell like Hotcakes.... 😂 Maybe a new Oasis will have color of they decide to do one in the coming months....idk...

The packaging is redesigned, from the blue background to the plain brown wrapper. So a little detail like moving the generation to the front isn't completely implausible. I do think it is a real image, not that I care since I won't be buying another Kindle regardless.

I know it is a stupid thing, but I feel like the increase to that final .2" is the final nail in the Oasis' coffin. Now, aside from buttons, what would the Oasis offer over the Paperwhite?

As soon as I post, Amazon will announce the all-new Oasis Color...

I'm personally not a fan of them making these devices bigger and bigger. I have the first Oasis, and love that it easily fits in a tiny pocket I have in my backpack. Plus, I like how easy it is to hold in one hand and turn pages (using the actual button) with my thumb.

If only the charging cover worked as they intended (or they had figured out how to shrink the battery down enough to fit it in the Oasis case).

I also loved the first Oasis for its ergonomics - it was the most comfortable reader I've ever used. But I prefer 7'' and 8'' screens to 6'' ones, so I sold my Oasis 1 after a couple of years. No bigger than 8'', though - else it would be too heavy and unwieldy.

Any Paperwhite model is a no-go for me - no buttons, no deal.

I suspect it will be, and then I'll have to decide to I keep dealing with my original Oasis (which they don't do software updates for anymore, plus the battery status and sleep mode is erratic), or finally cave and buy a Paperwhite (which just seems so lame comparatively).
