Tough to say. Would those with Paperwhite, Oasis, ... be satisfied with a Basic? Looking at the number of reviews, a Kindle (2019) has 49700 reviews while a Paperwhite (2018) has 124000 reviews (U.S. site).

That would drive me straight to Kobo for my next ereader if they started selling only the basic...

I would've bought a Kobo Oasis-like device a while ago if I had an easy way to access all my Amazon bought books (I have no patience for stripping the DRM off and converting them to epub).

random thought, the Paperwhite SE is probably discontinued assuming that the inclusion of a wireless charging coil and a light sensor would be enough changes to require a separate (third) FCC filing.
And my speculation of the Kindle line being discontinued was merely based off of the way all the models have gone out of stock being weird. Also, assuming Amazon does discontinue the Kindle line there's probably the option of using the Kindle app on Android eInk tablets going forward |

The Kindle still sells really well and then has the add-on impact of driving Amazon content sales since it is a captive ecosystem.

I haven’t been really satisfied with Kindle since my Voyage died. I have an Oasis but it is nothing special.

But it is nice to have frontlight for reading in bed or on an e-ink phone (Hisense A9). But I never use only the cold light - it makes me nauseous. During the day I use half and half and during the night full warmth. |

I agree with this. The Voyage was the best all-round Kindle e-reader device they produced. I guess it cost too much to make etc, but it would've been nice if Amazon had built off the Voyage's positives and continued a similar line of devices. a 6.8inch Voyage would've been fantastic. Ah well.

Amazon would probably prefer folks to use an App. In fact the majority of people do use an app on a phone, and secondarily on a tablet. The eink is 3rd place.

I preferred the Oasis models to the Voyage, which never felt right for me ergonomically.

I bought a Paperwhite when they were on sale several years ago--thinking I needed to give eink another go. I used it a bit for reading; plus it was way better on battery when using it with earbuds for Audible books than anything else. But I can't remember the last time I used it. Every time I think about using it, it's nowhere near where I am. The tablet, phone and earbuds are always within reach.

I own multiple quite old Voyages and a PW3, which is no spring chicken, but it is less old and has a larger lithium cell. Given a choice today of one only between a hypothetical newly manufactured Voyage at full 2014 retail price and a hypothetical newly manufactured PW3 at no charge, I would choose the Voyage without hesitation. |

I hope Amazon isn’t abandoning the Kindle. It’s the only e-ink device officially sold here in Brazil. Recently, after a lot of searching, I managed to get a used Libra 2, and I’m really enjoying it. I hope Kobo returns here someday.
