Trusted Reviews- Reviews the BeBook
Their verdict:
The BeBook is not a bad device. It supports a broad range of formats, has a good screen and long battery life. However, the interface is a bit hit and miss and in general the device feels a tad more sluggish than other eBooks we've looked at. The biggest issue, however, is that although it costs around £30 more than Sony's PRS-505 it doesn't look anywhere near as stylish and its menu system isn't as polished. Given these issues the price difference is a pretty significant deal breaker. Read the whole article here: http://www.trustedreviews.com/mobile...Book-Reader/p1 |

Sounds like great format support (review lists pdf, mobi, prc, epub, lit, txt, fb2, doc, html, rtf, djvu, wol, ppt, mbp, chm, bmp, jpg, png, gif and tif) but 4-level grey screen and ?!?USB 1.1?!? WTF?
With those features (not to mention looks, although it still beats the Kindle HA HA HA *runs from the rabid Kindle fans*) the price really should have been lower. 329.95 EUR from the bebook site. Interestingly enough the bebook site has a "free ebook section" with a large amount of non-English books: http://mybebook.com/download_free_ebook/browse/search/1 but I haven't looked at the formatting yet. .txt and .pdf by the looks of it. edit: that is pretty poor formatting, and it looks like they grabbed a copy of Gutenberg. That's a really impressive list of formats. Does it have search and dictionary lookup functions? If so is it supported in all formats?

I have both the Bebook and the CYbook gen 3 (no Sony).
All the formats I have tried in the Bebook are rough around the edges (although I haven't tried them all). Cybook does Mobi well, but everything else is rough around the edges (and with significantly less format support). However, Bebook is the testbed for Openinkpot, which is making steady progress. I could be happy with any of the readers from a hardware standpoint, but all of them are too weak from a firmware standpoint. |
