Free (nook/Kindle/iTunes/DRM-free) Mazovia Legacy [Award-Nom Québec Mystery Thriller]
The Mazovia Legacy by Canadian journalist turned author Michael E. Rose (SYKM), who apparently used to work for both the CBC and Interpol (presumably not at the same time), is the 1st in his Frank Delaney mystery/thriller series starring the eponymous Montreal, Québec-based intrepid globe-trotting investigative journalist eventually turned spy, this installment involving seeking out the story behind a mysterious random-seeming death which leads into some international intrigue dating back to WWII roots, free courtesy of publisher Pan Macmillan Australia's Momentum imprint, whom I'd thought e-printed Australians exclusively, but it turns out that Rose is now a Sydney-based expat.
This was a 2004 Arthur Ellis Award finalist for Best First Novel (our top mystery/crime-writing prize, equivalent to the Edgars), and the 3rd novel was also a Ellis Award finalist for Best Novel (also available in e-book format from Momentum at a reasonable-looking price, with the series apparently picked up from them for new continuations as well, if it turns out you like this and would like to read more). Currently free @ B&N UK (will likely also drop in the main store eventually), Amazon (available to Canadians & in the UK), Kobo & iTunes & Google Play (all available to Canadians, and DRM-free at Kobo), as well as directly from the publisher's webstore (DRM-free ePub/Mobi bundle available worldwide). And this has been the (late!) selected 3rd (non-repeat) free ebook thread of the day. Because award-nominated mystery/historically-motivated conspiracy thriller fiction, in a series that later picked up another award-nomination, written by and starring Canadians, and set in Canada (at least to begin with). It's like a hat-trick of national awesome, and it's DRM-free (in selected venues), to boot. Enjoy! Description The snow in a Montreal winter covers a multitude of sins … In the icy depths of a Quebec winter, a harmless old Polish man dies in mysterious circumstances. His suspicious niece draws in Montreal investigative journalist, Frank Delaney, to help her find the truth behind the death, a story the authorities seem to want covered up. The search for answers sweeps them into a dangerous web involving Canadian, Polish and Vatican agents who will use any means, even murder, to stop them. The catalyst for this international intrigue is the true story of Polish national art treasures secretly shipped to Canada to be hidden from the Nazis in the opening days of World War Two. This classic thriller combines fascinating history, deft storytelling and psychological depth. Last edited by ATDrake; 01-27-2015 at 10:53 AM. |
