Free (nook/Kindle/Kobo/iTunes) A Man to Die For [Award-Win Medical Mystery w/Romance]

A Man to Die For by Eileen Dreyer (SYKM), herself a former trauma nurse trained in forensic nursing and death investigation, according to her bio-blurb, is her award-winning standalone medical suspense thriller with strong romantic elements, or romantic medical thriller with strong suspense elements, depending on how you look at it, starring a plucky nurse vs a suspected serial killer doctor with the help of a homicide sergeant (the nurse, not the doctor, that is), free courtesy of publisher ePublishing Works! (exclamation mark theirs), who are e-printing it from the 1991 HarperTouch paperback.

According to the blurb, this was a winner of the RITA Award (a dedicated romance prize) and a finalist for the Anthony Award (a dedicated mystery/suspense prize; incidentally the Stop You're Killing Me website with its useful trad-pub author listings is the recipient of an Anthony, as well). And it quotes praise from both Nora Roberts (who writes very popular romances and also mystery/thrillers under her J.D. Robb penname), and Elizabeth George (who writes the popular Inspector Lynley series and no romances at all, as far as I can tell), so even if you're not normally into more romance-y works, you might want to give this one a try.

Currently free @ B&N (may also drop later in the UK), Amazon & Kobo (neither available to Canadians, though sometimes these do get price-matched for us, eventually), iTunes & Google Play (both available to Canadians).

And this has been the selected 3rd (non-repeat) free ebook thread of the day.

Because award-nominated genre-blending stuff with proven crossover appeal as evidenced by the granting of nominations for said awards is always nice to get. Even when both starting categories are ones I'm personally not usually inclined to read.

Enjoy!

Description
St. Louis Trauma nurse Casey McDonough thinks her life is interesting enough. Her best friend still drops acid, her ex-husband is a cross-dressing psychiatrist, and her mother has turned the third floor of the family home into the Chapel of Eternal Vigilance.

Then, things begin to really go wrong when OB/Gyn Dr. Dale Hunsacker arrives. Handsome, wealthy and charismatic, the good doctor is enchanting the patients of the St. Louis hospital. But, Cassy believes he is a serial killer. And the only person who takes her seriously, is Hunsacker himself.

Caught in a spiral of suspicion and intimidation, Casey approaches ex-Marine, ex-Jesuit homicide sergeant Jack Scanlan for help. All she has are hunches for proof, but she'll do anything to stop the monster walking the halls of her hospital.
