The Martyr of the Catacombs: A Tale of Ancient Rome is now known to have been written by James De Mille (1833–1880). It was first published by Carlton & Porter, New York in 1865.

You know I wonder if Lloyd Douglas had this book in mind when he wrote "The Robe." There are some similarities just in the description above alone that make me wonder.
