Does KOReader fix the Inkpad 4's contrast issues?
I am looking to go back to B&W from colour.
After extensive research, and having used the Pocketbook Color 3 for almost a year, I love everything about the way Pocketbook does things, from the design to the software. Now, reading here and on Reddit I know many people have an issue with contrast on the Inkpad 4, which is the reader I'm looking to get. Contrast and readability are also the only reasons I am switching back to B&W, and I really want something sharp and crisp to be as close to book-like. Everything I've read about the Inkpad 4's contrast seems to be only based on Pocketbook's stock reader app. I don't believe any reviews or comments have been written (and certainly no photos posted) about what is contrast like on KOReader, with contrast settings and font weights set to high. So, is there someone who can kindly comment, or even better post some photos, of what the Inkpad 4 looks like on KOReader with contrast and font weight set to high? |

Yes, I need to know, too! I have only used Nooks, Kindles, and tablets with Nook or Kindle apps.
Is PocketBook's stock reader app called KoReader? What is Kobo's stock reader app called? I have no interest in patching any eReader. I have read posts that mentioned flush vs recessed screens. People said recessed screens are clearer. Flush screens have some kind of layer that messes with the clarity. |

KOReader is not the default reader of Pocketbooks. It's a different software entirely and must be installed separately. It can also be installed on a Kobo.

The Inkpad 4 has a flush screen with a glass layer on top and that seems to affect contrast (even more than the fact Pocketbook don't seem to crank up the contrast on their screens as much as other manufacturers). KOReader has additional settings, not found on the stock Pocketbook reader app, that allow the contrast to be raised and the font weight to be finely tuned, but I've not seen any pictures of what that looks like on the Inkpad 4. |

Thank you Cellaris!
I have managed to read the discussion (Firefox translate works well) and the images do show even without logging in, but thanks for providing them! So, obviously these are compressed and reduced-quality photos, but even so, while the person who took the photos seems adamant that there is a big difference between stock and KOReader, I can't see that much of a difference between the two photos. Yes, the letters on KOReader do look a bit more black, but just a bit. It's nowhere near like looking at a Kobo or Kindle, unfortunately. This helps greatly as it now steers me further away from choosing an Inkpad 4 and into Kobo Sage territory. |
