I read the line, just misunderstood it. As in I thought you were saying the manufacturers weren't solely responsible as the software was essentially 3rd party apps.

ok. Although, the way that some manufacturers do their firmware, it can be the same as 3rd party apps. I can remember the original Sony PRS-500 and how infrequently they updated their software. I frequently speculated that they had some high school intern write that, and he forgot to check in the code.
