ePub errors from footnotes
I have been reading for 4 hours thinking I could resolve this issue on my own but when I use Calibre 7.16 to convert my file i see nothing but success and it looks great.
When I use epubchecker to check it though, i get over 100 of the following errors that I believe are from the footnotes in the word doc... (RSC-005): /index_split_004.html: Error while parsing file: attribute "role" not allowed here; expected attribute "accesskey", "charset", "coords", "dir", "hreflang", "lang", "rel", "rev", "shape",... Can someone point me to a forum post with some reading I could do to figure out how to resolve these errors so I could upload the file to places like Amazon and Ingram Sparks? |

There should also be a line number attached to that message.
If you go to the file index_split_004.html and to the line number mentioned in the error, can you copy the line of code here so we can check it out. If you can't find a line number, then search for the role tag and paste that line here. the role attribute has been used incorrectly. |

I don't even know what that means, "the role attribute has been used incorrectly."
This is all the errors for "split 8" and I see no line reference in the whole page... (RSC-005): /index_split_008.html: Error while parsing file: attribute "role" not allowed here; expected attribute "accesskey", "charset", "coords", "dir", "hreflang", "lang", "rel", "rev", "shape",... Okay... found the HTML files in Calibre... index_split_008.html line 15 has a footnote but what does col215 mean?...
<p class="block_5">A 2021 NordPass study found that most of us use around 100 passwords.<a id="back_note_19" href="index_split_056.html#note_19" title="19" class="noteref" role="doc-noteref">19</a> It is no wonder why we are having trouble remembering them all and why people make poor decisions here with their security. Some people write each one on a sticky note or in a spreadsheet, some make all the passwords the same, and some have a keyboard system to remember them. </p> |

Do I need to manually edit these files to remove these errors? If so, can you see what characters are causing this error?

Can you see if I did something wrong in the creation of this file?

The 2 errors were caused by the following attributes, which are not allowed in epub2 books:
Code:
role="doc-noteref" Code:
value="..." (Make sure to uncheck all other Polish options.) If you're not the co-author of the book, please remove the attached file. |

After a quick conversion to ePub3 using Sigil, epubcheck was a happy camper. As mentioned, role, et alia are ePub3 only. If you want to have the attached file removed, let me or an administrator know.

Both will accept reflowable epub2 and epub3 books that pass EPUBCheck validation.
However, Kindle KDP doesn't support all epub3 features. You might want to download Kindle Previewer and open the epub3 version with it. |

Or you may want to leave the eBook as ePub2 and correct the errors so you know it will convert to KF8/KFX.

There's also some <li> errors using a value="" attribute which, I think, is only epub3 compatible, which will need fixing if remaining with epub2.

IMO, move to epub3 as epub2 has pretty much seen its day. No one is making epub2 only readers anymore. And all epub3 features typically found in normal epubs are supported by Kindle. And epub3 has better Accessibility for people who need that.
This forum seems to have a huge resistance to change even when the change happened over a decade ago. |

You guys are awesome... I am not sure that I could have resolved those issues on my own with a month but all versions of the ebook have been uploaded and are awaiting Ingram Sparks approval.
Thanks again and Merry Christmas to all of you! |
