Epub3 supported list?
Hi all,
Is there a list somewhere of which (mainstream) devices and apps support epub3? There's a ton of info on this forum, but surely someone has a massive excel sheet they're maintaining or something) THANK YOU! Peg |

I haven't seen one.
Even if there was one, it would not be a reliable gauge of how well it supports the standard. eReaders tend to go off track a bit and do their own thing, never really 100% supporting the standard. Remembering that the css used in ebooks is only a small subset of the full css specification. epub3 compliant readers may, or may not, support the various style definitions. What code will work in one or two ereaders, may not work in others. As for your page-break issue, maybe you are using deprecated code? page-break-after is deprecated break-after is current code. But epub3 ereaders may not use break-after, like the Libra2 Essentially it is a mine-field, and the only way to know what works and what doesn't is to test on the ereader itself. |

EPUB3 supports crazy things like embedded audio and video, and e-readers most definitely don't implement that part of the spec. As Karellen said, you'll have to test manually to figure out what works and what doesn't.

Actually any e-reader that claims to support epub3 must be able to handle media overlays (audio) for Accessibility.
The problem is there are a bunch of old (never updated) broken epub2 only and epub3 readers out there. I test only on well established epub3 readers and ignore the old broken epub2 only readers especially if older than about 5 years. So you need to decide what targets to hit. epub3 is the only way to go if you value accessibility. |

If you are creating ePub3 ebooks for publication, you will have Amazon's limited support for ePub3 features to worry about since for most authors, that is where the largest portion of their sales will come from.
See HTML and CSS Tags Supported in Kindle Format 8 and Attributes and Tags Supported by Enhanced Typesetting for more information. |

You might want to check out test results at https://w3c.github.io/epub-tests/results
Unfortunately it's not that comprehensive in all the reading systems; I think the expectation is that vendors can voluntarily test and submit their results. |
