Problem with epub files
![]() I've used Calibre for a while now. I'm not real technically minded, but I need help. When I convert any book to epub, I get this weird epub file where the letters go from bold to regular ![]() I could really use some help in getting this fixed. Thanks Last edited by pdurrant; 10-22-2024 at 03:20 AM. |

If you downloaded the book from Amazon, I would suggest using KindleUnpack to generate the ePub version rather than using a calibre conversion to ePub. The sample did not show unwanted bold characters in the sample I downloaded. I attached a screenshot of my viewer compared to the original image you posted.
OTOH, I tried a calibre KF8=>ePub conversion and it did not show the extra bold characters your image shows. Last edited by DNSB; 10-22-2024 at 03:37 AM. |

Please attach your image to another post in this thread so we can see what you are talking about.

Here's the pic (I hope)
If I did this right, the image should show up. (like I said, not technically savvy. This is what a page in epub looks like. [It still didn't work for me. Converted to attachment] Last edited by pdurrant; 10-23-2024 at 02:03 AM. |

At this time, I suspect the issue is how the OP has the ebook-viewer configured and possibly the font they are using. Both the KindleUnpack and calibre conversion on mine do not show that density shift. |

Don't forget to check whether any (often misguided) "Accessibility Features" are in play. Some devices/OSs have "accessibility" features (that were specified by people who don't actually have a visual impairment, so they don't actually know whether they work) turned on by default, and with others it's ridiculously easy to accidentally turn them on. Thus, the font choices at the system level might look ok, but another setting for "high visibility" may be overriding the choices specified inside the active program.
I did some troubleshooting for a senior citizen a while back that was analogous to the problem reported here, but instead of changing font weight it automatically enlarged everything from "12pt" to approximately "20pt" (equivalents, "point size" is nontransferrable between devices!). Turning off the "accessibility" features brought things back to normal, so that lines could be more than four or five words long... |
