Update WinterBreak and koreader [kindle 2022]?
Hi,
![]() I have successfully jailbroken my Kindle Basic [2022] some time ago using WinterBreak that was released at the beginning of 2025. I've also installed koreader using kual. The "normal" release didn't work and I had to download nightly build. Everything is working fine now, but I'd like to update both of them to the newer version as easy as possbile and without losing settings/data etc. How should I proceed with updating my WinterBreak/KUAL/koreader to the newer versions? Is it even possible or do I have to do everything from scratch like before - it is factory reset, clean install of WinterBreak -> KUAL -> koreader -> upload books -> manually change/upload settings file koreader settings? Thanks ![]() |

For KOReader, there is not a compatible regular release yet. The latest is still 2024.11, which does not include the kindlehf build that is needed for firmware 5.16.3+ Kindles. You'll need to stay on the nightly releases. Update -> Settings -> Update channel -> Development

Thanks, that worked and successfully updated my KOReader app. Do you know if there's a way to update WinterBreak Kindle jailbreak?

Well the concept of updating the jailbreak itself doesn’t make much sense. The jailbreak is used to “open up” your kindle, once it’s opened up the job is done, you don’t run that code anymore, so there’s nothing to update.
You can if you wish update the hotfix to the latest version; just install the bin file in the same way you installed the original one. |
