Hi everyone! I am new to this community, but glad I found it. Hopefully this is the correct spot to post.
From what I gathered I cannot at the moment modify the Kobo Colour firmware because it has secureboot now due to the change in architecture. Also, because the firmware is onboard and not as easy to get access to. Previously these were on accessible SD cards? (This is my first so it sounds like that) Can we install custom or official apps? If we can install custom apps where do i find them and how do I get some sort of way into developing them? Any other tips I should know? |

By modify the firmware what exactly do you mean
If you mean apply patches to it, there is no issue. I believe secure boot is more related to compiling and loading ones own kernel. Sent from my Pixel 7a using Tapatalk |

Thanks for the reply!
Understood I will look around for patches and such. Is there a good place to get started on developing my own patch for some changes? For the kernel, I was under the impression Inkbox was a replacement. Inkbox seems much more open to modification, so I was looking into that. However, Libra Colour does not seem to be a candidate. For the previously mentioned reasons. Is that incorrect? |

inkbox i have zero idea.
patches there are many threads here. see for instance https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=297008 everything comes down to what your intentions are. the patches on the whole are to change functionality of the base kobo environment (ie the stock ereadibg software for both epubs and kobo formatted epubs). there are alternative readers such as plato and koreader that are not affected by the patches. there are also mods such as nickelmenu that add extra functions for ease of use that do not apply patches to the firmware |

Secure boot is only a problem for replacing the entire OS; KOReader and Plato can be launched from within Nickel, so they are not affected the way Inkbox is.
