Calibre and Windows 8 Comptability
Hi,
This is my first post, so if I am not at the correct thread, please forgive me. I just bought a new notebook with Windows 8 and tried to download Calibre on it. Unfortunately this is not possible. It says, Calibre is not compatible and I should contact the developer. Could someone please help me and tell me what to do? Thanks ArzuA |

Others have no such problem; what model notebook did you buy?

There should be no problems unless you a Microsoft Surface RT system (which cannot run standard Windows programs despite the fact it says it is running Windows 8)

I cannot think of any reason Calibre should not run on that machine under Windows 8.
What actually tells you it is not compatible? |

Can you download and install it anyway, or is it being blocked?
I have it installed on my Win8 Ativ, however, it constantly crashes - sometimes after a single action. Does anyone know what is causing this? |

Sounds like you have a corrupt download of Calibre. I assume that you were downloading it from the official site? If so it might be worth clearing the browser caches and trying again.

I download the software from the official site, so it cannot be corrupt. I deleted my browser history, ... but I keep receiving the same message. I really do not know what I can do ...

When downloading, choose to Save the file. With Internet Explorer (and Internet Explorer is improved and fine for Windows 8), the saved file will be, by default, in the Downloads folder. The path to the downloads folder is something like:
C:\Users\YourName_000\Downloads Now, assuming you choose the 64 bit download, here is the name of the file: calibre-64bit-0.9.19.msi Right-click on the file to see the Properties. You should see this line: Size: 54.2 MB (56,905,728 bytes) Do you? The reason I am asking is that your error message is consistent with an incomplete download. If the size is less than indicated above, re-download until you get a full download file. Otherwise, I would try the regular Windows download (the one without the 64 on the big download icon). Does that behave the same? |
