Calibre not starting
I hadn't used Calibre for a while but now it won't open.
Windows 10 6.27.0 A background process appears every time I try to run it. calibre-debug -g outputs thusly: calibre 6.27 embedded-python: True Windows-10-10.0.19045-SP0 Windows ('64bit', 'WindowsPE') ('Windows', '10', '10.0.19045') Python 3.10.1 Windows: ('10', '10.0.19045', 'SP0', 'Multiprocessor Free') Interface language: None I've run as admin, uninstalled/reinstalled but still the same. |

No luck. The same thing happens. A background process exists but the app is not running.

Do you see the calibre icon in the taskbar? If so, try shift-right click on the icon is the taskbar and then click on Move. Use the right and/or left arrow keys to move the window until it moves into the visible area.
If not, try restarting in safe mode and see if calibre runs then. |

Windows 10 has a simple way to discover the whereabouts of an 'off screen' window -- right click the taskbar and select Cascade windows. After doing a Cascade… there'll be an Undo cascade… option.

There's no taskbar icon, it doesn't appear in Task View and there is no App process in Task Manager. There is a Background Process.

I haven't used ExplorerPatcher or the AHK script. Added 2: Cascade still there after update and restart - maybe it's a hemisphere thing Last edited by BetterRed; 10-04-2023 at 02:25 AM. |

The last update to my Windows 10 Edu does not have Cascade Windows. Admittedly it was being a corporate managed device at that time and quite a few items were being set by policies.

Which version of Windows and is calibre updated to the latest version? As of today, the current version is 6.28.1. If you are running WIndows 10 64-bit, it is full updated? An older version of Windows 10 will cause calibre not to run.
Stop Avast from running and then try to run calibre. If that doesn't work, boot into safe mode and try calibre again. If safe mode works, stop everything that's starts on startup and add them back in one-by-one until you find what's causing the problem. |
