Am I allowed to advertise
soft leather E book covers that I make on here? Never posted here before and got directed to this forum by someone who bought one from me.

You can check the posting guidlines here: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/faq...ing_guidelines
They state: 5. Advertising and Promotion Please feel free to post in our Flea Market section if you want to buy or sell a reading device (or other item relevant to mobile reading) for your personal use only. If you have something to promote – e.g. a new book, a new reading device, or other item relevant to mobile reading, then you may announce it discreetly, and respond to questions, in a relevant section of the forum. We appreciate informative and concise information about relevant items. Please do not remark on alternative products, not even in general terms, (e.g. “no other product can equal…”). People who abuse these guidelines may be considered as spammers. From this rule, I don't see a problem, but I am not a moderator |

The BEST advertising. . .
In a forum such as this is active participation. It doesn't have to be constant, but checking in every so often and participating when appropriate with your specific knowledge can be a real help. Of course you need genuine interest in the forum's focus to be effective.
I know, in a popular international photography based forum, a well known executive From B&H Photo (A major N.Y. based photo shop with a strong mail order and Internet marketing business) is a regular contributor. It isn't frequent or excessive, but when the topic is related to marketing or buying reliable equipment, he makes a valuable and reliable resource without beating the drum for B&H. I can't begin to tell you how much it has helped B&H the business, because I don't know; but I do know B&H has a VERY high reputation even with participants who live outside North America. The New York B&H Store is an important tourist destination for people who care about photography. I know my last 2 photo equipment purchases were influenced by him. BTW, you'd be amazed how often covers come up on this forum. |

Basically, if you're a forum participant who also happens to sell stuff, you'll do well; if you're a marketer who happens to show up in the forum, you'll mostly be ignored. A good way to tell is watch your karma, which is given to you by people who like your posts, and on a mental average of your karma per post.
So join in the fun. |

Please note that the "Flea Market" forum is purely for personal sales. Commercial sales are not permitted there.

I'm finding it difficult to work out what the difference is between offering ebook covers and authors advertising their books.... |

Maybe the difference is the level of participation. We let regular participants get away with a bit more since we assume they will be more sensitive to totally pissing us off. |

maybe, but I've seen some drop in, say they have a book, and then disappear .... it's a bit of a greyish area that has not, to my mind, been clarified by Harry. (ps. it's not only books, there are shirts and ereaders, too... ) |

As one Moderator already mentioned, and as I will chime in, the short answer is "NO." Two of your other posts have already been deleted by me. Thank you for your understanding. Don (Moderator) Last edited by Dr. Drib; 06-13-2010 at 08:07 PM. |

You are permitted (indeed, are very welcome) to have a short and discreet advert for your products in your signature, as you will see many of our author members do. That way, the more you participate in our forums, the more your advert will be seen.

Excuse me, but the two moderator replies in this thread are contradictory.
One says "No" in large red letters, whilst another says; "yes" as long as it is a small advert in the signature. |

Don was saying "No" to advertising posts. That does not contradict what I said about discreet adverts in a signature being OK.
