Amazon Patent on Nook Design

Has anyone seen this article? It appears Amazon was granted a patent for an ebook reader combining LCD and e-Ink screens. WTF?

The US patent system sounds completely ridiculous to me. Can they really get away with this?

Yes, patent (and copyright) law in the US is in a sad state: one that doesn't serve the interests of the consumer at all.

But if (big if) it goes to court, all BN would have to prove is that their concept was produced before Amazon lodged the patent registration.
