That's very sad news indeed. Iain Banks is one of my favourite authors, not to mention being a really nice guy personally.

Sad to hear. I've never read his work but I know how respected he is.

I have read and enjoyed many of his books and am saddened for him and his family. Sometimes miracles do happen and hopefully one will happen for him.

That's really sad news. I've enjoyed every book of his I've ever read (which I think is all of them).

Haven't read his work but have heard of him. Always sad when someone falls ill like this. We all have to go at some point and if it is his time I hope it will be peacefully with little or no pain.

One of my favorite authors, for both his mainstream and SF works. Very sad to hear. Definitely in character for him to ask his intended fiancée, "would you do me the honor of becoming my widow?" His wicked sense of humor and ability to shock us will be sorely missed, should he pass.

One of my favourite authors too - both his "M" Sci Fi and his regular novels. Complicity was one of the best books I read in my impressionable years, and Canal Dreams one of the first books I persuaded the Sony eReader stall to ignore my illegal geographic state and secure with a voucher obtained through a fellow mobile reader. On the Sci Fi front I think we will look back at the Player of Games as significant as 1984 or Brave New World were to a previous generation.
Sad news. amjb |

Really upset to hear this. He is one of my all time favourite authors, and the only one I have ever introduced myself to and asked for a personal message, which he put on the title page of my copy of "The Wasp Factory" for me.

Sad news.
I've just bought the last two of his books I didn't already own, figuring he should get the benefit of the royalties as soon as possible. |
