See my post #104. The answer is 'yes.'

I do not know the rules for generating and (in particular) naming the thumbnail, but if you have one that conforms, you can manually copy it.

I side loaded a KFX file to a Paperwhite with calibre, grabbed the thumbnail, and after side loading the same KFX file to Scribe with calibre, copied the thumbnail to the system/thumbnails folder with AFT (in Windows, you can just use Explorer). The book has a cover image.

Clearly it is something that can be addressed in a future calibre update.

I missed this earlier, caught it when looking at the new firmware.

One exploit vector was closed between 5.16.2.1.1 and 5.6.3

It appears that something is still open on 5.16.3.1 , unless it is fixed in a non-obvious manner.
