Whitfield, Raoul: Death in a Bowl (1931), v1, 20 Oct 2020
Hollywood, 1930: an orchestra conductor is shot dead while conducting at the Hollywood Bowl.
Raoul Whitfield, 1896-1945, burst into Black Mask Magazine in 1926, created the unique private eye Jo Gar, half-Filipino living in Manila, who appeared in numerous short stories. Whitfield also wrote a handful of Black Mask-style noir novels. His last years were plagued by illness, and he died aged 51.
