Yeah. Or it's just so ugly I can't stand the sight of it (which happens rarely, but there have been a few times).

I always change those messed up types of covers too. I'll either hunt down a better cover or scan an old paperback and do edits in Photoshop if necessary, or even create one myself. I don't need hi-res images for an ereader, I usually keep to 800px for height and that looks great both in Calibre and on my readers, but I don't want to see a pixelated mess either or tears running across the page.

Even current 6" readers have 1448 pixel height. For thumbnails on my Nook, smaller images are fine. But Kobo uses covers for the sleep screen. kindles now offer it. Likely Nook will eventually too. I try to set my covers for at least 1920 height, just to future proof things.

I'm currently using Kobo Glo HD (and will until I die, it's the perfect everything for me). The resolution is 1024x768, but when you start with a crisp image, it upscales perfectly from 800, especially since it's only greyscale. The smaller 1" book images for the indexing look just fine, and since I always use a sleep cover, the most I can see it full size is for a second when opening the cover, and it keeps the images under 200kb. So anything larger really isn't noticeable in my instance.

Some of those are still copyright, but it probably doesn't matter as the publishers used to give out unused covers as promotional material to bookshops and schools.

I only worry about good book covers to replace a missing dust jacket or damaged cover on a paper edition.

Thanks man. I had fun looking through your covers.

Those Caliban books are great. I wish they would get official ebook releases. (Have I already mentioned that in this thread? I might have. I check in on those books a couple of times a year.)
