Replacing the launcher should be trivial. You don't need root or EDL. ADB can be helpful though.

I hadn't heard anyone say that ADB can't be enabled.

I thought it should be trivial as well. The problem is that when I install the new launcher and switch to it, Boox automatically switches to the old one. When I restart I got the old one whatever settings I try to set on Android got reverted (changing home app, switching to the new launcher through it after running it, etc). if try to do something like this:

adb shell pm set-home-activity org.ds.simple.ink.launcher/.SimpleInkLauncher
it fails w/ java exception

I couldn't find the package name in apps - not sure why. I gave up on that idea as well. Not sure about rooting it also. Since no conclusive guides are shared here, I'd probably pass on it, too.

Yes. I am done. Stupid me. It is rooted, adaway running lsposed installed and a view other mods. Perfect now. Your support here for me and others is magic

A new firmware is available and update to this new firmware fails. What do I need to do to update it?
I could try to reflash original boot, update and the root again. However I would like to discuss it first

Any advice highly appreciated.

I believe the reason why update fails is rooting. I coul also try to install it via recovery and then root again
