So this means that the default progression should be for the chapter.
But I can't find a compatible book.

Kobo's default book format is kepub, not epub, and as far as I know kepub is the only format which can display pages left in chapter.

ePub using RMSDK on Kobo can display %, pages left, or time left for a chapter in the header. The time remaining for the chapter was fixed in 4.19 as it selecting time remaining showed %.

This refers to the two options above the progress bar option (Chapter progress and book progress) which allow you to set the header and footer to time remaining, page number or percent read. This sentence means that for some books that cannot display chapter progress in the footer, book progress will be used instead for both header and footer. It has nothing to do with the progress bar as the progress bar can only display book progress.

I'm considering trying time left for the chapter to see how I get on with it. Currently, I'm using pages left. I've turned off the footer as I don't need the page number since I can get that with a single tap.

maybe it will be like this, but I'm not convinced.
there is a space delimited in sectors
precise lines, divide the sections



so...
1) is a position error?
a bug? still not correct?
2) is a sentence that makes no sense with the double progression of reading, if it referred to header and footer. (see "in its place")
3) it would make a lot of sense for chapter, because in that way we could remove the header, still having a check on the progress

Trust me, the message is referring to the progress options for the header and footer, not the book progress bar. Some of the progress choices only work for certain book formats. Kepub and epub can display full book, chapter progress and time remaining. CBR/CBZ and TXT, and probably MOBI, will show the book progress in the header. PDFs do not display either, but, when the navigation bar is displayed, it is for the full book.

The progress bar is always for the full book. Which is what it is labeled as, a "book progress bar".

Basically, it is a position error. Kobo still has not added a function for having a chapter progress bar.

Not really. The comment is about all the options in that section. Looking at the other settings, the notes at the bottom of each section apply to all the settings in that section.
