Interesting. Was your Kindle for Mac downloaded from the Apple App Store or Amazon's website?

Amazon's website is still delivering 1.40.1 and my Kindle for Mac 1.40.1 hasn't alerted me to any updates.

Though I see Kindle Classic 1.40.2 in the App Store. The version history says the standard non-helpful: "This update includes stability improvements and bug fixes". I wouldn't be surprised if rantanplan is right and it's just a naming change.

I can't see anything new. I thought maybe it was going to actually pull collections off online but no sign of that. I guess it is positioning for the new release. Maybe they will keep the Kindle Classic around for awhile for people with older MacOS and they want them both on the App Store at the same time ??

Yes it was the Apple App Store.

The email Amazon sent out seemed to indicate the Kindle app (now the Kindle Classic app) would be updated to the new Kindle app.

I assume the name change is to move it out of the way so the new one can install to /Applications/Kindle.app/ folder, and allow for migrating things before (potentially) deleting the old app folder), and allow a clean start.

I think the email indicated that it would be necessary to run both the old and new app side by side to import old collections into the new app.
But you’re right the name change is definitely to make room for a new Kindle App.

It irks me as well. I realize there's still two weeks in September, but when they send out an announcement saying they are replacing the current Kindle for Mac with a new version that will be available in September 2023 and that support for the current app will end by October 2023, I expect to see the new Kindle for Mac already.

It seems to me that for at least several decades, whenever a company announces that something is coming in X, the last day of X is the earliest it will arrive, whether X is a year, a half, a quarter, or a month.

I've been beta testing the new Kindle for Mac and have not run into any bugs. I'm not sure what Amazon is waiting for to release it to the general public, especially since they announced it would be available in September.

I’ve realised that there’s an event tomorrow. Maybe (not getting my hopes up) there will be a new Kindle and the app will release in tandem.
