Friedrich Gerstäcker (10. Mai 1816 in Hamburg 31. Mai 1872 in Braunschweig) war ein deutscher Schriftsteller. Er ist vor allem durch seine Bücher über Nordamerika bekannt; seine Bestseller waren Die Regulatoren in Arkansas (1846) und Die Flußpiraten des Mississippi (1847). (aus Wikipedia)

Na, da bin ich ja gespannt. Als Schüler war ich mal Jahrgangszweiter oder -dritter beim Vorlesewettbewerb, und mein Preis war dieses Buch. Mit elf Jahren fand ich es grausam öde und war schwer enttäuscht, dass das der Lohn für meine Mühen war. Zeit für einen zweiten Versuch, scheints...

Ja ja, das mit den Preisen ist immer ein Thema für sich. Am häufigsten wird es das geben, was irgendein "edler" Spender dafür gestiftet hat. Oder es meint jemand es müsse unbeding was "kulturell wertvolles" sein. Oder was für die politische Bildung.

Das etwas genommen wird, worüber sich die Preisträger wirklich freuen, dürfte die seltene Ausnahme sein.

Zurück zum Buch:
Ich hätte was in der Art von Coopers Lederstrumpf erwartet, nur halt dort spielend, wo Mark Twains Geschichten zuhause sind.
