Hi Recent ebook purchaser
Hi,
Have just got a Sony ebook, but am fairly unknowledgeable about what types of document it reads ie what all the .rtf's etc mean and what I can safely try to load - managed to totally loose the ereader library the other day only just found out how to uninstall all the directories to reinstate it!!! Joined the forum to find out more. Karen |

Welcome to MobileRead Karen!
(Actually I think I just welcomed you on a different thread! ) Congrats on your 505! The formats you want to look for are epub, lrf/BBeB (this is Sony's format), and Adobe Digital Editions (or Adobe PDF). Any of these can be read on your 505. I prefer the epub and would choose that over the others. |

Hello Karen,
If you purchase from the Sony Store, the ebooks will be in LRX format. This is Sony's proprietary format and can only be used via Sony's device. Most ebook sites will have encrypted PDF. These can be read natively on the Sony but PDF is not the ideal format of choice for ebooks. Also if you live in the US and borrow ebooks from the library, most books will be in PDF format. To download and install DRM PDF ebooks to your Sony you will need Adobe Digital Editions (ADE). Other stores will give you the option of DRM and DRM-free EPUB and DRM-free LRF. These are also readable on the Sony. DRM EPUB will need ADE above to load to your Sony whereas the DRM-free formats can use the Sony software or Calibre to load books to your device. There are other formats available for they will usually require removing DRM and then converting them to a format readable on the Sony. Hope this helps and congradulations on your purchase. |

Welcome to the forum! You've already gotten the info you need as far as the formats (like curly, I prefer epub, overall), so nothing left but to add my welcome in!
