Photos of the weight - lighted case, K3, both
After I ranted about the bulk and uneven lighting of the K3 + lighted case, I wanted to post some photos of the added weight of the case.
Disclaimer: I don't know if the non-lighted case is any heavier or lighter, I'm just posting my lighted cover weight. Also, this reinforces my preference of an Octo slip case and reading "naked." although I do admit the lighted case is kinda growing on me... |

Dang, it virtually doubles the weight of the kindle. I'm thinking neoprene sleeve and naked reading for me. Again, the device, not me. I wear clothes when I read.

I will say, holding the K3 naked feels, well, like you aren't even holding anything. Quite a departure from my KDX and even K2.
It's a bummer that you can feel the heft while in the case, as I'm kinda growing to like it. This is why I like sleeves so much - you get protection when you don't need the K3, and featherweight when you use it. |

Can the K3 case be worn like a baseball glove like the Oberons K2s can?

I am just folding the cover back and going from there. It's not that bad, but naked is farrrr better. |

My scale registers the nekkid Kindle (WiFi+3G) at 8 1/8 oz (231g) and the lighted case at 7 5/8 oz (214g). So that's 15 3/4 oz (445g) total. It doubt that the unlighted case is much different in weight.
By comparison, my old K1 in the M-Edge case is 15 3/8 oz (435g) without a light attached. The naked device is 10.5 oz (296g) and the case is fairly light but not very sturdy at a little under 5 oz (139g) . The stock case was 5 3/4 oz (164g) and a bit stiffer. So that brings the old stock device + case to 16 1/4 oz (460g). I can't find my light right now so I don't know how much it weighs exactly but it's at least a few ounces. |

My K1 stock case and Mighty Bright clip-on light together weigh 8.2 oz on my scale. My K3 lighted case weighs 7.4 oz on my postal scale. For me, the lighter weight and one less thing to carry is a big improvement.
