"Most Downloaded Books From the Library" -- list now country specific

http://search.overdrive.com/Most-Dow...s-Library.aspx

From overdrive's Blog:

Quote:
For more than a year, OverDrive has issued monthly “Most Downloaded Books from the Library” lists, which features popular eBook and audiobook downloads from all libraries in our global network. The lists were an instant hit, helping our library partners guide collection development decisions.

Today, we’re excited to announce an expansion of the “Most Downloaded Books from the Library” lists, with territory-specific charts for the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada. Now libraries can use more precise lists to determine titles their local readers want most. Check out what was hot last month below, or click the links to see a full list for each region.
I posted the link for global downloads but on the right you can select the country/territory you prefer. The list is for January 2011.

Okay I have to wonder.
Just HOW LONG can Steig Larsson's books continue to dominate all the "bestseller/most read" lists? Is there ANYBODY left that would be interested in reading the trilogy who hasn't?

I've read them myself and they're good reads. But they also seem fairly targeted to a specific market and not for everybody. They've also been really fueled by by the Dead Artist phenomena I think which is not a marketing tool many authors will want to duplicate.

Then again, I kind of feel the same way about The Help - although that's a book club must read I think and minus the Dead Author bit.

I liked the list so much I put in a spreadsheet so I could see it more "head to head"

Lowering the price of the first two books to $5.00 may have sparked new interest and more buyers.

What a load of, well a load. It's sad when something like that happens, she'll not only be without the man she lived with for the better part of her life but also the bounty of their life together, there is a lot to be said for a woman standing beside her love while he wrote, they don't make any money unless the books sell.

He's an ass, ok a dead one, for not having a will.

From Wikipedia:

Quote:
In May 2008, it was announced that a 1977 will, found soon after Larsson's death, declared his wish to leave his assets to the Umeå branch of the Communist Workers League (now the Socialist Party). As the will was unwitnessed, it was not valid under Swedish law, with the result that all of Larsson's estate, including future royalties from book sales, went to his father and brother. His long term lover Eva Gabrielsson, who found the will, has no legal right to the inheritance, sparking controversy between her and his father and brother. Reportedly, the two never married because, under Swedish law, couples entering into marriage are required to make their addresses (at the time) publicly available; marrying would have been a security risk. Owing to his reporting on extremist groups and the death threats he had received, the couple had sought and been granted masking of their addresses, personal data and identity numbers from public records, to make it harder for others to trace them; this kind of "identity cover" was integral to his work as a journalist and would have been difficult to bypass if the two had married or become registered partners.

Wow, that would make getting married a bit of an issue. Hope she gets something out of it all, I got the impression that her and her father in law don't get along?

For a GLOBAL top 10, does anyone see anything strange about this list? There's one point that immediately jumps out at me.

They are all novels? I would have thought that the library's would have more loans on resource materials?

No, the point I meant was that they were all in ENGLISH. For a language that is spoken by less than 10% of the world's population, that is very odd indeed!
