Updating Quick Start Guide - What to add / change?

I'm starting the process of updating the quick start guide. I plan to update all of the screen shots and any instructions that have changed.

Since there has been an influx of new users I want to get user input. Is there anything you want to see added to the quick start guide, changed or removed?

What about the sub-sorting (for instance firstly the author and then within each author the books)
Thanks for the efforts

New user feedback: How about starting with a link to where to find the Quick Start User Guide? When I saw your post, I went to take a look at the Guide and couldn't find it.

The Calibre client Help button takes me directly to the User Guide.

It's not mentioned on the Calibre site Help page at all (although these fora are). http://calibre-ebook.com/help

A Google search ("calibre quick start user guide") turned up a couple of links that looked promising, but proved to be defunct links to the bug tracker.
e.g. http://bugs.calibre-ebook.com/raw-at...20Schember.pdf

Oh -- or is this a guide that's available here on MobileRead?

ETA: DOH! I *just* stumbled across the Quick Start Guide as an ebook in my Library. I feel like a goof. My apologies.

It should be in your library. Every time you create a library it's added to it automatically.

If one already has the guide in your library, does it ever get updated to the more recent version once one has been produced?

I would think, since it is, to my knowledge, copied from the %calibre_root%/resources folder, that it gets updated whenever Calibre does.

IIRC the answer was NO.
Once it was placed into NEW INSTALL an empty, it becomes part of the Library, totally under your control. (You may have done edits to your copy)

As Noted, The current version is in 'Resources' and will obey the standard 'Add to Library' rules.

I only update it for major version releases. Existing copies in your library will not be altered. You would have to upadate the book manually after a major (0.X) release. You can either create a new library, move the guide and delete the new librar. Or as Manichean said pull it out of the calibre install directory.

Out of curiosity: Does that mean that one is to come in the near future?

I can't really say (*cough* hopefully 1 - 3ish months *cough*), releases are ultimately up to Kovid. This is the last of my 0.8 changes. I don't know what other devs are working on or what else Kovid has planned / where he is on everything changes. This is the last I'll talk about it on this thread.

0.8 is planned for the near future, just how near depends on how much time I can scavenge from the weekly calibre release cycle.
