What are the best featurer(s) of the Nook Simple Touch? What sold you on the reader?

If i were to pick one up today it would be the UI and the touch screen coupled with the speed of it. It uses almost the same UI as the nook color which I'm a big fan of. And man that thing is fast for an eink device.

Is that a better UI then the droid X? Faster than the Droid X?

I would say the simplicity of the UI, for things like dictionary look-up or for browsing the library, plus the extended battery life.

Yeah it's an overall better UI than the Droid X. The nook app for Android is great as far as an app for a phone is concerned but the total UI is better on the nook color.
but the nook for android app does have landscape and really fluid page turning animation that rivals iBooks in terms of how fluid and nice it looks and it has a really cool magnifying glass when scanning a page for words to highlight or look up. So the nook app is pretty wild.

but sorting, options etc, the BN bookstore shopping app, is more advanced on the nook color.

in terms of speed, Droid X is maybe a fraction faster than the nook color, not by much, maybe a fraction. both are faster than any eink but the nook str is one of the fastest eink devices I've come across.

Size, battery life, quick interface are all fantastic. I also own the 1st gen Nook 3g and am completely blown away by the newest model. Shelves are definitely easier to go through and organize as well.

If youre comparing DroiX reading to Nook reading then the only thing you really need to consider is eInk VS LCD reading.

How about the new Simple Touch compared to the older Nook Color and Nook? Can you see advancement in the UI? Is the new UI easier to use?

I own both and I ADORE the STR. The infrared touch system has thus far been flawless for me. I've had the STR since Friday the 3rd, read daily and have 70% battery left. In addition to the improved interface, I adore the size. If you havent gone to play with one yet, you'll be shocked at just how light it is. And the rubberized front and back are very pleasing to hold. I have smaller hands and my main issue with the physical structure of my N1E was that it was just a bit too large and heavy for me to hold with one hand.

Being that I skipped a few generations of e-readers, going from the Sony 600 to the STR, the primary motivating factor for me was the screen clarity. I initially intended to buy the 1st gen Nook after buying one for my dad for his birthday and finally having some extra funds on hand that I could use for something for me. That was when I discovered that the new Nook was just days from being released.

The reasons that I chose the STR over the now cheaper 1st gen Nook included the touch screen, the smaller size and lighter weight, and the improved battery life.

This little guy is my first ereader and I love it. The screen is amazing and I spend much less time on the computer which makes my eyes happy.

Has BN managed to streamline any of the functions in the UI and make it easier to access your books? Have they added new functions that are simply not available in older models of Nook readers - Nook and Nook Color?

Yes, your BN and non BN files are now combined into one library (and you can see the covers on nonBN content now, in a cover flow sort of view if you chose). Shelving, while not perfect, is much easier now and auto-alphabetizes itself now.

Having used both, I find the newer UI much easier to use. BN of course forgot to put a meter on your internal memory, so you could see how much more BN book space you have (not so for the SD card), but I expect that to be fixed in a firmware update.

Do you have specific questions? I'd be happy to address them here or in PM.

Size, screen, and the bezel being large enough that it's comfortable to hold got me to buy it. The touch screen, ui, and how nice the library view is sold me on keeping it. I really like the device and there are some things I don't like but that's aren't major enough to prevent me keeping or recommending the device.

The eink touchscreen. Not just that it's a touchscreen (there are tons of that, I have an ipad and a NC), but the fact that it was eink and touchscreen. Really the only reason I got it. Of course, there are the sony readers with eink touchscreen that came out before the nook, but I found them expensive and that is why I never got one.
